Selvedge denim is seen as the 'gold standard' of denim. The denim for these premium jeans is woven on a shuttle loom with the resulting fabric being narrower, and having a tighter weave, leading to it being more durable and heavyweight. Selvedge denim is often characterised by having a coloured thread running through the edge of the fabric.
